The roots of Private Schools Management Association,(PSMA ), Swat lie in the former Private Schools Association (PSA), Swat. PSA was founded by Mr Khurshid Ahmad Khan of International Education Academy, Faizabad Swat in 1998 and he was his founding President. He remained president till 2003.
In 2003 , PSA was renamed as PSMA, Swat after fresh elections were held in May, 2003 and Ziauddin Yousafzai of Khushal Public School & College was elected as president with Safdar Ali Aziz of Tipu Model School & College as General Secretary for 3 years. At the same time, Executive Council was formed according to provisional constitution and Mr Ahmad Shah of Sarosh Academy was elected as its first Chairman.
In November, 2005, PSMA, Swat got its proper constitution approved by the Executive Council. The constitution of PSMA Swat was authored by Mr Safdar Ali Aziz Advocate who was then General Secretary of the association.
Fresh elections were held in February, 2006 according to the 2005 constitution of PSMA, Swat this time Mr Khurshid Ahmad Khan was elected once again as president with Mr Kamaluddin of Abdali School & College, Matta as General Secretary. While Mr Ahmad Shah was re elected as Chairman of Executive Council.
Due to insurgency in Swat, elections could not be held in 2009 after 3 years.
3rd elections were held in February, 2011 and this time Mr Ziauddin Yousafzai was elected once again as president with Mr Zafar Shalmani of Elum Public School Amankot as General Secretary. While Mr Ahmad Shah was elected as Chairman Executive Council for 3rd consecutive term.
Ziauddin Yousafzai couldn’t compete his 3 years term as president as he had to move abroad in October, 2012 and Safdar Ali Aziz became Acting President of the association according to the provisions of the constitution as he was then Senior Vice President of the association.
In February, 2014, 4th election of the association was held in which Mr Sawab Khan of the Knowledge City School, Charbagh was elected as president with late Fazal Sattar Khan of Swat Valley Public School, Khazana, Shamozai as General Secretary. While Safdar Ali Aziz was elected as Chairman, Executive Council.
5th Election of the association was held in July, 2017 and as a result, Mr Abdul Jalil Khan of Jinnah Public School Manyar was elected as president with Mr Nisar Ahmad Khan of Swat Education Academy as General Secretary. This time, Safdar Ali Aziz was re elected as Chairman Executive Council for the 2nd term.
In 2019, some basic amendments were made in the 2005 constitution of PSMA, Swat according to which the 3 years term of the elected office bearers was shortened to 2 years and accordingly, fresh elections were held in October, 2019. This time, Mr Ahmad Shah was elected as president with Mr Shabbir Ahmad of Hira School & College as General Secretary, while Mr Abdul Jalil Khan was elected as Chairman, Executive Council.
7th Election of the association took place in January, 2022 and this time once again Mr Sawab Khan was elected as president with Mr Shah Faisal of Rashid Minhas School & College Panr as General Secretary . This time, Mr Mian Said Badshah of Udhyana Model School & College was elected as Chairman, Executive Council.
8th election of the association was held in July, 2024 and as a result Mr Zafar Shalmani was elected as president with Mr Shah Faisal as General Secretary, while Safdar Ali Aziz was elected for 3rd term as Chairman Executive Council.
Next election of the association will be held in October/ November 2026, insha Allah.
